ICFRE-Forest Research Institute Celebrates Van Mahotsav 2024 at RIMC Dehradun

Van Mahotsav is an annual tree-planting festival celebrated in India, aimed at increasing the green cover of the country and raising awareness about the importance of trees and forests. Extension Division of ICFRE-Forest Research Institute, Dehradun organized Van Mahotsav 2024 with a tree planting event at the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) in Dehradun as part of the “एक_पेड़_माँ_के_नाम” campaign on 24th of July 2024.

Smt. Richa Misra, IFS, Head Extension Division welcomed the dignitaries and the participants and underlined the importance of the event . Col Rahul Agarwal, Commandant, RIMC in his address stressed on the importance of tree planting and also welcomed the collaboration between two prestigious institutions for the event. Dr. Renu Singh, IFS, Director ICFRE-FRI highlighted the “एक_पेड़_माँ_के_नाम” campaign initiated by the Government of India. She said that, this innovative programme encourages citizens to plant a tree in honor of their mothers, intertwining personal sentiment with environmental conservation. She spoke at length on the role of trees in environment conservation especially in relation to the climate change.

Director ICFRE-FRI and the Commandant RIMC led the plantation programme inside RIMC campus. They planted trees of Rudraksh and Peepal respectively. They were joined by officers, scientists, and staff from both institutions, as well as RIMC cadets and teachers. Together, the participants planted a total of 120 trees within the college campus. The event not only enriched the RIMC campus but also provided an opportunity for the cadets to learn about the significance of trees in maintaining ecological balance.

In the end Mr. Lokinder Sharma, Scientist, Extension Division, delivered the vote of thanks. Team of Extension division and Silviculture division, ICFRE-FRI coordinated with RIMC team led by Mr. P.K Sharma, Vice Principal, in the successful organization of the programme.
