Harela celebrations at Governement Girls Inter College, Kaulagarh, Dehradun

FRI EIACP (Environmental Information, Awareness, Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme) Resource Partner on Forestry and Forest Related Livelihoods serves as a one stop platform for dissemination of environmental information, informed policy formulation on various facets of the environment, and facilitation of alternate livelihoods through green skilling.

Harela is a festival celebrated in the Indian state of Uttarakhand and in some regions of Himachal Pradesh. This festival is very popular in the Kumaun region of Uttarakhand, and is celebrated by the name Harela (हरेला).

This year EIACP, FRI celebrated the festival of Harela at Government Girls Inter College, Kaulagarh, Dehradun on 19th July, 2023.

Women empowerment is a crucial metric to measure the development and progress of a region. The Government Girls Inter College was selected for celebrations so as to ensure female participation and focus on women empowerment.

In the programme the importance of trees was described which was followed by a plantation drive in the campus of the Inter College.
