
The ICFRE-Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun, celebrated Van Mahotsav 2025 with great enthusiasm and commitment to environmental sustainability. The event was graced by the Director, ICFRE-FRI, who attended as the Chief Guest.
The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Dinesh Kumar, Scientist-G and Head of the Extension Division. He extended a warm welcome to the Director, Group Coordinator Research (GCR), Dean and Registrar of FRI Deemed University (FRIDU), Registrar FRI, Heads of Divisions, scientists, and staff from various divisions of the Institute.
Addressing the gathering, the Director, ICFRE-FRI, highlighted the importance of tree plantation in mitigating the adverse effects of climate change and restoring ecological balance. She emphasized that plantation efforts must be accompanied by proper aftercare to ensure the healthy growth and survival of saplings. The Director urged all stakeholders to take responsibility not just for planting trees, but also for nurturing them in the long term to make a meaningful impact on the environment.
Following her address, the Director formally inaugurated Van Mahotsav 2025 by planting a sapling of Sita Ashok (Saraca asoca), marking the commencement of the plantation drive. Enthusiastic participation was witnessed as all attendees, including scientists and staff, planted saplings of Sita Ashok and Arjun (Terminalia arjuna) within the FRI campus.
The event was smoothly coordinated by the Extension Division in collaboration with the Range Office. The programme reaffirmed ICFRE-FRI’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable forestry practices.
