Training on “Advances in Seed and Nursery Technology” at ICFRE-Forest Research Institute, Dehradun from 24th to 26th Sept 2024

A training on “Advances in Seed and Nursery Technology” sponsored by MoEF & CC, New Delhi  for other stakeholders has been organized under the scheme “Forestry Training and Capacity Building” from 24th to 26th Sept 20241 by Silviculture and Forest Management Division, ICFRE-FRI, Dehradun.

Ms. Richa Misra, IFS, Head, Silviculture and Forest Management Division, FRI welcomed the Chief Guest of the function Dr. Renu Singh, IFS, Director, ICFRE-FRI by presenting bouquet and other dignitaries. She also gave a brief account of programme & Research activities being carried out in FRI.

The training was inaugurated by Chief guest Dr. Renu Singh, Director, ICFRE- Forest Research Institute FRI) on 24th Sept 2024. In her address, Dr. Renu Singh, Director, ICFRE-FRI interacted with the participants and came to know about their expectations from the training being organized for awareness creation about Seed and Nursery Technology. She shared the detailed about the training and advancement in Seed and Nursery Technology of forestry trees.

After inauguration, technical sessions was started and lectures were taken by various resource persons on 24th, 25th and 26th Sept 2024.  Dr. Devendra Kumar, Scientist E delivered presentation on Quality seed collection, extraction, processing and pre- treatments of nursery seeds and Seed and seedlings quality evaluation of forestry trees, Dr. Vinod K. Kairon, Scientist C on Quality seedlings production and Economics of Nursery Development Record Management, Dr. Manisha Thapliyal Scientist G & OIC, FTSL on Basics of Nursery and its Management and Infrastructure of modern Nursery, potting mixture and containers for flowering and avenue trees seedlings, Dr. Arvind Kumar, Scientist F on Nursery insects pests and their management, Dr. Shailesh Pandey, Scientist E on Nursery diseases and their management, Dr. B.P. Tamta, Scientist G on Important propagation of medicinal plants in nursery, DR. Vipin Parkas, Scientist F on Application of VAM to Grow  quality seedlings in nursery and Dr. G. Balaganesh on Nursery Management, Marketing and Economics  for Smallholder Farmers and Nursery Operators.

Participants were brought to visit Kukreti Nursery, Doctor Ganj, Vikasnagar. Nursery owner Mr. Ashok Kukreti showed seedlings of Pine, Bamboo, Citrus species, Guava, Swietenia, Anola and  flowering plants like Rose  prepared by grafting, Mango grafted. Besides this he explained economics of making Nursery. There is Rs. 5.50 to 6 in put cost to prepare one acre nursery and income you may get Rs. 1.20 to 1.50 lakh per month, he said. After this they also visited KVK, Dhakrani, Vikasnagar. Professor Dr. A.K. Sharma, OIC, KVK was invited to share a brief view about KVK technologies and various orchards grown in the campus. Later Professor Dr. A. K. Singh brief about fodder trees, its protein content, and livestock feeding.

 

Today on 26th Sept 2024 training was concluded. Views about the training from participants were taken. Certificates and 1 Kg VAM Packet were distributed by Director, FRI to all the participant. After this   Programme Coodinator announced the training closed.

 

Dr. Manisha Thapliyal, Scientist G and OIC, FTSL, S&FM delivered vote of thanks. Dr. Devendra Kumar, Scientist-E and Programme Coodinator anchored the programme.  Mr. Vikas Shishodia, Technician, Mr. Tarun Malik, Technician, Ms. Deepika, Technical Assistant and other staff of FTSL, S&FM were contributed a lot to make successful of above programme.
