ICFRE-Forest Research Institute, Dehradun Training programme “Cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants” [27 – 29 October, 2025]

The Extension Division, ICFRE – Forest Research Institute, Dehradun conducted 3 days training on “Cultivation and utilization of medicinal and aromatic plants”from 27th to 29th October, 2025 for farmers and other stakeholders at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dhakrani in Dehradun district of Uttarakhand. The training inaugurated on 27th October, 2025 where, the team of Extension Division of Forest Research Institute, Dehradun welcomed all the subject experts and participants of the training put introductory remarks and gave an outline of the training.  During the training, a technical knowledge on different aspects on medicinal and aromatic plants was given through lectures and field visits. The focus was given on medicinal and aromatic plants-based agroforestry for income generation, potential of medicinal and aromatic plants in Uttarakhand, medicinal and edible mushrooms, soil suitability for cultivation medicinal and aromatic plants, medicinal value of wild edible plants and fruits, agronomy of important medicinal and aromatic plants, Role of Farmers Production Organizations in collection and marketing of produce and products. Seed and nursery technologies for improved quality stock, making and utilization of mycorrhiza based biofertilizer and its application to enhance productivity.

A field visit of Center for Aromatic Plants, Selaqui in district Uttrakhand was (Uttarakhand) was also arranged for participants where subject experts of the center gave the participants live demonstration during their visit the campus of the center and participants came to know about aromatic plants such as lemon grass, citronella, tulsi, khas-khas, bela, juhi, rose, bacha, nagarmontha, jwaran kusa, bhangira, stevia, mint, agar and many more.The participants also visited the distillation units of the center and came to know about distillation process of plants for essential oils. The participants also visited the farm of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Dhakrani and came to know about improved variety of amla in fruiting stage planted on farm boundary.

The training was concluded on 29th October, 2025 after taking feedbacks and views of the participants and providing the certificates of their participation in the said training. Total 35 participants attended the training.

Under the overall guidance of Ms. Richa Misra, IFS, Head Extension Division, all team members including Scientists; Dr. Charan Singh, Shri Rambir Singh and Shri Lokinder Sharma and supporting staff; Shri Naveen Chauhan, Technical Assistant and Shri Pushkar Singh, Technician with active cooperation of Dr. A. Sharma, Professor and Officer in Charge of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dhakrani and his team did a commendable work to complete the various tasks and make the programme successful.
