ICFRE–Forest Research Institute conducts National Outreach Workshop for stakeholders.

The ICFRE-Forest Research Institute conducted National Outreach Workshop on All India Coordinated Research Projects (AICRPs) and National-Forest Genetic Resources (N-FGRs).Welcome address has been delivered by Dr. Renu Singh, IFS, Director, ICFRE-FRI. She extended a warm welcome to theChief Guest of the function Dr. Samir Sinha IFS, PCCF & HoFF, Uttarakhand, and ICFRE representative. Rajesh Sharma, DDG (Research). Dr. Renu Singh highlighted the progress of projects, namely National AICRPs and N-FGRs, citing successful implementation of five projects and baseline data generation across 15 states covering fire zones, wood-affected areas, soil nutrient profiles, and FGRs work. She acknowledged the collaborations with IIT Roorkee and DRDO for the development of extension materials in seven regional languages, as well as the production of a media film and podcast to enhance forest fire awareness. Dr. Rajesh Sharma outlined the workshop’s scope, referencing the CAMPA-funded project launched in 2020 involving all ICFRE and non-ICFRE institutions. He shared key findings from 13 species-specific and 18 theme-based studies focused on forest seeds, genetic resources, and fire management, stressing the importance of sharing insights with stakeholders to guide future research.

The inaugural address by Dr. Samir Sinha emphasized integrated policy and field strategies, calling forestry research a collaborative effort. He addressed critical themes such as forest fires, seed systems, and genetic resources, urging modernization of traditional tools like ‘Jhapa’ and enhancing legal, administrative, and technical responses to forest fire and wildlife conflict. The release of various extension materials developed under AICRPs and NFGR programmes marked a significant milestone of the event. At the conclusion of the session, Dr. Manisha Thapliyal proposed the vote of thanks to everyone.

The first technical session featured presentations on AICRP-10 and AICRP-22, focusing on forest seed protocols and the forest soil health cards (FSHC). Post-lunch, AICRP-16 highlighted industrial bioprospecting of lesser-known forest plants, followed by a detailed presentation on NFGR by Dr. Santan Barthwal, emphasizing conservation strategies and gene banking of forestry tree species. The rapporteur, press, media, and committee team,  along with various researchers, scientists, academicians, technocrats, farmers, forest department officials, community members, and industry representatives participated in the meeting both in offline and online modes.
