Forest Research Institute Celebrates World Environment Day 2025

Dehradun, June 5, 2025 — The Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun, celebrated World Environment Day with great enthusiasm, bringing together the Group Coordinator Research, Dean & Registrar of FRIDU, Registrar of FRI, Heads of various divisions of FRI, scientists, officers, researchers, faculty members, staff, and students. The theme for this year’s World Environment Day was “Ending Plastic Pollution Globally.”

The celebration commenced with a warm welcome to all attendees by Smt. Richa Misra, IFS,  Head of the Extension Division, FRI. This was followed by a lecture delivered by Dr. Vineet Kumar, Scientist-G and Head of the Chemistry and Bioprospecting Division, on “Ending Plastic Pollution.”

A series of events were organized in the run-up to World Environment Day, including a quiz competition on June 3 and a cleanliness drive on June 4, in which staff and scholars from various divisions of FRI and FRIDU participated. Dr. Renu Singh, IFS and Director of FRI, distributed prizes and certificates to the winners.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Renu Singh emphasized that plastic pollution has emerged as one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time. She noted that FRI has initiated programs to promote eco-friendly alternatives, support research on biodegradable materials, and raise awareness about the critical need to eliminate single-use plastics. She highlighted the vital role played by the Extension Division and the EIACP of FRI in raising awareness on this front. Dr. Singh also commended the tireless efforts of the scientists, officers, staff, and partners who work every day to safeguard our forests and promote environmental stewardship.

The event, organized by Forest Research Institute, Dehradun, who expressed gratitude to all contributors. The event proved to be highly effective in raising awareness about environmental conservation and the urgent need to end plastic pollution.
