Forest Research Institute, Dehradun celebrated Van Mahotsav -2019 under which seedling of multipurpose trees like Seeta Ashok, Rudraksh, Putranjeeva, Aonla, Amaltas, Jamun, Kanner, Bamboo, etc. were planted in the premises of Jawahar Navodaya Vidayalaya, Shankarpur Sahaspur, Dehradun. Dr. S. C. Gairola, Director General, Indian Council of Forestry and Education (ICFRE), Dehradun was the Chief Guest on this occasion. Shri A. S. Rawat, Director, Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun was the Guest of Honour of the event. Officers, scientists, officials of FRI and ICFRE participated in the programme.
On the occasion, a cultural programme was also organized by the Vidyalaya where students presented various thematic programmes on ecological conservation and environmental issues in the form of dances, skids etc. The Chief Guest, Dr. Gairola addressed the gathering and said that development and conservation has to go by hand in hand. There is need for sustainable development by optimal utilization of our resources. Every citizen of the society has to contribute for the conservation of our mother earth for our better future. There is a need of strong will and interest to do something for ecological conservation. He informed that it a matter of great pleasure that our country is one of 10 countries where forest cover has increased I last few years. He mentioned that the programme “PRAKRITI” launched by ICFRE in the country is providing interface between scientists and students of Kendriya and Navodaya Vidyalayas on forestry and environment related issues. Shri A. S. Rawat, Director, FRI said that that under Programme “PRAKRITI” the institute is arranging exposure visits, environment related competitions and awareness campaigns for students where our scientists and subject experts interact with students and deliver forestry related talks. He further added that more people participatory programmes will be conducted in future. The programme was organized by Extension Division of the institute. Dy. Director Generals, Asstt. Director Generals, Head of Divisions, Scientists, officers and officials of ICFRE and FRI were present.
