Value addition and marketing of NTFPs ( Plant Origin): Bamboo crafts

Certificate course on “Value addition and marketing of NTFPs ( Plant Origin): Bamboo crafts” at Forest Products Division, Forest Research Institute, Dehradun under Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP)-ENVIS " Funded by Ministry of Environment , Forest and Climate Change, New Delhi Forest Research Institute , Dehra dun has organized a 400 hrs Certificate course on “Value addition and marketing of NTFPs ( Plant Origin): Bamboo crafts” under “Green Skill Development Programme” of Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, GOI from 13 th Nov 2018 to 18 th January 2019 . Ministry has taken up an initiative for skill development in the environment and forest sector to enable India’s youth to get gainful employment and or/self-employment called Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP). During the course, participants underwent the training on bamboo species , their availability and selection for variety of products, conversion and primary processing through indigenous machines , preservation, seasoning, finishing, product making viz; agarbatti stick making, hand made paper , basketry design , decorative products, File folders , bags , photo frames , bamboo racks , lawn chairs , lawn tables, easy chairs , bamboo chicks, bamboo lamps etc. , bamboo composites for panels, construction of low cost shelter houses and sheds of bamboo. The National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India helped in Entrepreneurial Orientation for capacity building of the trainees and had provided handholding support and informational inputs to the trainees for setting up their enterprises and marketing strategies. Self Help Group “Srijan” was made by ladies during the training. During the valedictory function of the course Director , Forest Research Institute, Dehradun Sh. A.S. Rawat welcomed the chief guest Dr. S.C. Gairola , Director General, Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education Dehradun and interacted with the trainees and encouraged them as well as appreciated their enthusiasm. He emphasized the need of judicious utilization of bamboo for variety of products through scientific processing for skill development and livelihood generation. Dr. S.C. Gairola, Director General, ICFRE has mentioned that MoEF& CC has taken a great initiative in launching GSDP under which many certificate courses are being run by various institutes of ICFRE. Dr. Sadhna Tripathi, Scientist-G and Project leader informed that training is attended by 25 participants from various parts of country. The participants are from different states viz; Telangana , Uttrakhand, Haryana , Delhi and Uttarpradesh. She elaborated major topics covered during the training and stated that the focus of the training was to impart the practical knowledge to full fill the objectives of the course. Dr. Sadhna Tripathi elaborated that there are several machines for bamboo processing in Common Facility center for Bamboo Processing and training (CFCBPT) on which training was imparted On the occasion Deputy Director General ICFRE , ADGs ICFRE , Scientist Dr. D.P. Khali, Dr. Ajmal Samani, Shri Akhato Sumi Project Investigators, and Dr. Meena Bakshi, Dr. Rajesh Bhandari , Dr. Vikas Rana , Dr.V. Madan , Dr. N. K. Upreti , Dr. Topwal and other Scientist were present. Team of NIESBUD officials Shri Amit Advisor , Shri Sajwan , Ms. Deepa were also present . The meeting concluded by vote of thanks .
