 Chemistry Division

Mandate :

The Chemistry Division was established in 1906. It has been conducting basic and applied research on phytochemistry of various NWFPs (e.g., medicinal plants, essential oils, fatty oils, insecticides of plant origin, gums, tannins, starches, wood and bark extractives, natural dyes and cellulose etc.), wood, waste products from forestry operations and forest based industries. Division has 06 Scientists and 15 technical and other staff. During the review period the Division published 14 papers in the international peer reviewed journals, 09 papers in the national journals and 03 Books. The Division worked on 29 ICFRE funded and 23 externally funded projects in the review period. The Division submitted 10 Technical Reports to various funding agencies. 09 Ph.D. were supervised by the Scientists of the Division. The Scientists and researchers of the Division altogether participated in 57 national and international seminars in five years and abstracts/papers have been published in respective seminar proceedings. The Division filed 02 patents in the review period. The R & D efforts have delivered the products and services for high socio-economic and environment benefits. Although the division can be credited for bringing out impressive publications, processes and patents, it has greater potential to excel further provided more staff and funds are made available. Space and non-availability of certain advance equipments are other constraints. The Division needs to pay more attention towards transferability of research results to the stakeholders through extension.

Phytochemical investigation for efficient utilization of forest products.
