Forest Research Institute has organized the one day First Consultation Meeting of Uttarakhand on DPR Preparation for Rejuvenation of Yamuna River through Forestry Interventions” for the State of Uttarakhand on 05 July 2019 at Convocation Hall, FRI, Dehradun. This meeting was organized under the project sanctioned by ICFRE/ MoEFCC, Govt. India, New Delhi. Experts from IIT’s, National Institute of Hydrology, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Soil Conservation, State Forest Department of Uttarakhand, Pollution Control Board and NGO’s have participated in the meetingand deliberated on the project formulation & implementation and identify the opportunities & constraints to make Yamuna clean.
At the outsetDr. Dinesh Kumar, Scientist G & Project Coordinator welcomed the dignitaries/stakeholdersand he apprisedabout of the project. Sh. A.S. Rawat, Director, FRIinformedparticipants details about efforts to be made in the directionmakingYamuna clean.He also mentioned about various polluting activities around river Yamuna.Sh. S.D. Sharma, DDG (Research), ICFRE told that ICFRE has assigned task of rejuvenation of 9 major rivers of India by performing various new technologies by Govt. of India. He told that DPR of Yamuna Rejuvenation through Forestry Interventions will be prepared by March 2020.Sh. Monish Mullick, IFS, MD, UttarakhandForest Development Corporation mentioned the details of forestry intervention in preparation of detail project report for Yamuna and he also conveyed his best wishes for the success of project. Various experts explained their views on cleaning Yamuna in three technical sessions viz. Experiences from Ganga Cleaning Efforts and Future Possibilities, Forestry Interventions, Community ParticipationModels, Stakeholder Consultation, Technology Usage and CriteriaIdentification of GIS layers and panel discussion.
